05.05.13 - Lake Barrett
Barrett is amazing. Our boat managed 50 fish for the day on frogs/poppers in the am, then cranks, and plastics in the afternoon. Boated my first sweetwater CALICO BASS and it was a nice SLAB. Til next time Auntie Barrett…
04.21.13 - Catalina Big Game Hunting
We took advantage of the beautiful weather we had over the weekend and made the 23 mi. channel crossing to Catalina Island. Game plan was to start West and work our way around the backside to the East End. We were greeted by 61 degree water and some killer conditions on the beach. The morning started slow, but as the tide drained it got things going for us.
A few hundred casts later we racked up 15+ fish in the 1-3lb range with a couple standouts. R.Spizer got a beautiful 5lb fish on an original H&H Cocahoe minnow & I topped our day off by breaking my previous PB of 8.8lbs (Our 35.68lb bag kicker fish) with this 9lb 1oz bulldozer. She was right where she should be in the foam zone and ate a 7” Island Plastic swimbait rigged on a 1.5oz WAR Baits slayer head in “Rockhopper”. I got her in the boat with a Performance Tackle 80M custom swimbait rod with an Abu Garcia RVO3 Inshore and 65lb Spiderwire Stealth braid.
Cheers to our sponsors for providing us solid gear to catch trophy fish with confidence. Personal bests are meant to be broken…take advantage of your time on the water, hunt hard and explore more!
04.16.13 - MOGAN MAN
A few days before the Fred Hall Show, we lent our beloved HYDRA-HOE to SWBA Tournament Director, Eric Bent to film an episode on Calico Bass fishing with Capt. Blair Wiggins of Addictive Fishing. Here is the full “Catalina Blue” episode…standby for footage of R.Spizer & Justin Reynolds’ day at SCI with Blair.

03.17.13 - La Jolla
Received a last minute invite from Afran to make a gentleman’s trip to hunt calicos off La Jolla. I don’t fish the SD area too often so it was rad to check out the neighborhood. We kept it fun & mellow with a pick overall bite, but the fish that made it into the boat were solid. Highlight of the day was a wolf pack of 6lb+ calicos that charged our weedless baits nat geo.
03.10.13 - The Story of Jack Sowell - Trailer
If you don’t already know…Jack Sowell pioneered Offshore Calico Bass fishing as we know it. Want to fish SCI / SBI / the other SCI? Well Sowell has a lifetime of “Rockhoppin” under his belt. On top of being an all around BAD ASS, Jack has some amazing stories to tell.
03.09.13 - Hoodrat Hoodrat Hoochie…
The “latest & greatest” at the Fred Hall Show is cool and all, but timeless gems like this Hoochie Toad reign supreme in the rad factor. It’s wise to recognize the ideas and techniques of yesteryear.
03.06.13 - FHS LBC

02.09.2013 - SWBA Rd. 1 = 8th Place.
Going into the event we had a set game plan from some amazing prefishing a couple weeks prior. The similar prefish tides and weather pattern panned out perfectly leading into the event…all we needed to do was execute….

01.27.13 - Prefishin Mission
We met up with Afran Abutin from WAR Baits to check out the bite in Mission Bay to prep for Rd. 1 of the SWBA series. We don’t fish MB that often, but we always have a lot of fun when we do. Af boated some real good ones on his 3/8 WAR Swimjig and we picked away at a few more on the rest of the kit.
We like what we saw…looking forward to 2.9.13.
01.22.13 - Abu Garcia Inshore Family
Check out the entire lineup of the new Abu Garcia Inshore Saltwater rods & reels as told by Capt. Jimmy Decker.
We are psyched to see the JDM “Salty Stage” series makes it way to the good ‘ol USA and Jimmy D. pretty much nailed it on the lengths / actions of the Volatile rods for us saltwater guys.

122212 - Local Motion
Joined my Dad & Keith Michael (Team Hammer) for a look at the local bite they have been on. TOUGH sums up our day. Aside from the bite, we were blessed with an unreal sunrise on the beach.
MERRY FISHMAS!
